this SUCKS

Posted in Group:

I'm sorry to complain, but that's the only way to put it. My common sense knows that there's no deadly germs involved in kissing or sharing food/drinks, it knows I'm not responsible for the Holocaust, it knows that I won't burn in hell for not doing my homework. So why don't I know any of that stuff?

Say this out loud if you can & as often as you need to "It's not me, It's my OCD".
You know there is no rational for these thoughts, but OCD will NOT allow you to brush them off...that is the very nature of OCD. I highly recommend the book "Brain Lock" if you can get it. It was written by a researcher at UCLA who spent years and years with a team trying to figure it out and how OCD affects the brain. What they did find was that certain parts of brain light up when OCD is triggered that do not in people without OCD...meaning, that a person with OCD has what they term 'a sticky gear shift'...your mind will obsess and create doubt, you will engage in rituals or avoidance behavior, which fuels the OCD more. It is literally a chemical imbalance in the brain...its not you. OCD can create so much doubt and so much fear that logic just will not fight. THe trick is to notice these thoughts and to RELABEL them for what they are: useless OCD messages. If you can get this book, there are many used copies on Amazon.com..its very readable and it can be very helpful.

Warmly,

I'm sort of in the process of ordering it, but for some reason my visa giftcard is malfunctioning.

Expect problems and eat them for breakfast.
